GES News & Announcements GES Weekly UpdateThe week of February 8th is Spirit Week at GES! Fifth grade also celebrates "Cruise Day" on Friday - with the matching spirit of Luau Day! We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday with celebrations by most classes during an extended break. Fifth grade will celebrate later due to their "cruise" through activities in the morning.

Tuesday - Career Day Wednesday - International Day Thursday - Crazy Hair Day Friday - Luau Day A note of appreciation to all of the parents who support our work - to those who support the School Store, School Bank, and classroom activities. Thanks to those parents and GHS students who helped communicate the message of the AVID program. The fifth grade AVID program was presented to students on February 4th, with a theme focusing on social and intellectual disabilities (such as autism) experienced by children and adults. Our next GES PTG meeting is Tuesday, February 9th. Please know that the GES PTG is now on Facebook. There will be a link from the GES PTG website to the facebook page. Update from the GES Nurse's office: To fourth grade parents: If you have not already submitted a copy of your child's latest physical examination to the school, please do so as soon as possible. Vision and hearing screening is now completed for third grade students. Vision and BMI screening will begin this week for fourth grade students. Please call the nurse, Sharon Iaquinta, during school hours if you have any questions or concerns. SPEDPAC wishes to share information: SPEDPAC's February seminar is entitled, "Identifying Children at Risk for a Reading Disability at Home and in the Classroom." This seminar will be take place on February 11th in the GES Cafeteria from 7pm-9pm. This will be a great seminar for all parents who are interested in learning a little more about this. The flyer is in the school documents folder. School Building Project Update At its December 15, 2009 regularly scheduled meeting, the Grafton Board of Selectmen voted to hold a Town Meeting on Saturday February 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. and a Ballot Vote on February 23, 2010. The Town Meeting and the Ballot Vote will consider the approval and funding for the construction of a new High School.
School Year 2010 - 2011 Survey
The School Committee is seeking input in regard to the 2010 - 2011 school year calendar. A copy of the survey is in the school documents folder. Thanks for your feedback!GHS wishes to share information: The GHS Cheerleaders are partnering with Silhouette Portrait artist, Carol Lebeaux, on February 13th as a fundraiser for their National Competition in Florida. Carol is one of only 4 such artists in New England and of only 20 in the U.S. Schedule a 10-minute seating for a hand-cut heirloom portrait silhouette and receive it immediately. The silhouette can also be mounted on high quality museum board or framed in an oval wood finished in black w/gold. It’s Box Tops Contest time!
Beginning January 13, 2010 through Friday February 12, 2010 we will have a school wide contest. There will be one class per grade awarded with an extra recess for the greatest number of Box Tops submitted during the contest dates. In order for your Box Tops to count towards your child’s class totals you must submit your Box Tops coupons in a bag or envelope labeled with your child’s class room number or teacher’s name. Then have your child bring the labeled bag or envelope to the library and drop it in the Box Tops collection bin any time before Friday February 12, 2010. Volunteering in School
All volunteers must complete a CORI form at the Superintendent's office before volunteering for school events or working in the school. The schools must receive notification that the CORI is approved before you can volunteer in the school. A CORI is good for three years. If you are unsure if your CORI is still approved, please contact the school at 508-839-0757.
